Chef Nelson German Brings Back Menu Favorites

“Seafood Boil” and “Seafood Family Feast”

Oakland, Calif. – Nelson German, Executive Chef/Owner of alaMar and Sobre Mesa, features full service at alaMar Kitchen & Bar and brings back menu favorites, the Seafood Boil and Seafood Family Feast (pictured above). A recent Top Chef contestant on Bravo TV, German’s exquisite menus tell the stories of the African and Caribbean diasporas through cultural foodways at his two award-winning restaurants/bars. alaMar Kitchen represents German’s two-decade culinary journey as a chef with a spotlight on the Mediterranean roots of Cajun dishes.

“alaMar is my baby,” says Nelson German. “Our menu focuses on dishes I grew up with that my mom and grandmother would cook. I have my own take on these recipes that are shaped by my travels cooking through the Mediterranean. Spain, France and Italy have such an influence on Cajun cooking and culture. At alaMar, I want people to feel like they’re traveling to the coast of France eating shrimp with a great sauce and bread. Come eat delicious seafood with your hands, get messy, and have a blast while watching the 49ers and Warriors’ games.”

Seafood Boil

alaMar’s signature seafood boils available with four seafood options: Peel n Eat Shrimp, Whole Alaskan Snow Crab, Whole Dungeness Crab, and Salt Spring Mussels. Seafood boils are submerged in a choice of three sauces (Romesco Butter, Chili Pepper Scampi, Rosemary “Steph” Curry), spice level (Mild, Medium, Hot, Hella Spicy), and add-ons are available for an additional fee such as Corn, Potato, Sausage, Fresh Grilled Bread, and Rice. Prices range from $23 – $55.

Seafood Family Feast

A seafood feast like no other, alaMar Style! Seafood Family Feast (feeds 4-6 guests) includes one Whole Dungeness Crab, Two Whole Caribbean Lobster Tails, 1lb Head-On Shrimp, 1lb Mussels, Two Snow Crab Leg Clusters, Yukon Gold Potatoes, Brentwood Corn, Andouille Pork Sausage, and the choice of a delicious sauce (Romesco Butter, Chili Pepper Scampi, Rosemary “Steph” Curry), and spice level (Mild, Medium, Hot, Hella Spicy).

alaMar Kitchen – Full Service

Diners are making their way back to restaurants with increased interest for full service from experienced dining staff. alaMar Kitchen & Bar will now offer full service for indoor and outdoor dining with the additional option of patrons using the existing QR code system to order and pay. Chef Nelson German encourages diners to come in and hear about the dishes and drinks for an elevated experience beyond the QR system.

“The pendulum is swinging back to what diners wanted back in 2019,” says German. “First and foremost, we want people to feel safe when they come to alaMar. We know people are hungry for human interaction. Our return to full service is an opportunity for diners to learn about Afro-Dominican culture, taste our dishes, and enjoy a rum punch.”
